Journey of A Thousand Miles In First Retrospect

So, as the title suggests, I have returned from my grand adventure, only to be hungry for more. Not knowing if and when this will be published, let me begin with a boiled down listing exercise.

How to Plan a Trip of Your Own
1. Determine dates of your trip.
2. Buy flight tickets
3. Prioritize: what you want to see, how you want to get around
4. Survey accommodation prices based on (3)

After following steps 1-4, this is what you will have accomplished
1. A (paid) commitment to yourself that this trip really will happen. Backing out means more than just being called chicken by your alter ego, it also means losing out on paid-for-flight tickets.
2. A rough itinerary as well as an estimate on how much you will be spending on transport, entertainment, food, and accommodation.
3. A bird's eye view of whether you packed too much into an impossible timeframe or if you are coasting on an extended holiday. Both have pros and cons of their own. It is up to you to find that equilibrium point.
4. A deadline for you to be doing certain things, such as paperwork and bookings.

So, once the ball is rolling, stay positive, and keep telling yourself that this is real; this is you, and you are really doing this. Good luck!
